RELIGIOUS SYMBOLS

Whatever religious beliefs a person holds, it seems very dangerous to me that they should be discouraged – sometimes even banned – from advertising their beliefs by traditional symbols. It denies information to other people, and the exchange of opinions is facilitated by knowing something about the person you are speaking to. Such symbols may at times arouse controversy, and the intention of the banners is possibly to prevent strife. But surely the basis for constructive dialoge is honest statement of one’s personal position. It is quite reasonable to show that position by outward signs.
